Did not realize that the starfish shell was encased in a thick resin coating that does not wrap evenly around the shell. The underside is black and has a sharp uneven edge that shows from the front.
this was a very nice piece, I bought it to put in a wire wrap design that I make to sell. what attracted me to this is I saw a pict and I like shells that are unusual shapes.
These are very pretty. Surprisingly light weight, which works well for some things, but I'm not so sure it'll be weighty enough for my long necklace designs. The acrylic coating had some sharp edges and one pendant had a sharp point on the back, which would be uncomfortable against the skin. I sanded it down, but now the back is marred looking, as it was glossy. Just giving my honest opinion.
I was overjoyed to find this gorgeous pendant last year! So much that, I bought it and made the necklace right away, even though I first saw in the fall. (To confess, I sneaked a peak wearing it a few times!) I used locally bought beads to accent the starfish, which hangs by the pinch bail I bought from Artbeads. Every other pearl has a 4mm vitrail medium bicone with a 15/0 aqua green seed bead on each side of the bicones. They pick up the paua color of the starfish so beautifully! I wanted to use the white pearls for contrast and it worked out well.
