This faux chainmail bracelet is perfect for men or women. If you want it to look more feminine, use less chain for a narrower look.
What's cooler than a bracelet that looks like chainmail and can be worn anywhere? Learning how to make your own This bracelet features a unique design that weaves Chinese knotting cord through lengths of chain to create a faux chainmail look. The adjustable closure at the end means anyone can wear it. If you're a cool guy or know one, you have to make this bracelet
Cut five lengths of 6mm antique silver-plated brass rolo chain approximately 7 1/4 inches long, or 42 links. Lay them on your workspace side by side.
Cut a length of The BeadSmith 1.5mm dark green Chinese knotting cord approximately 10 feet long. Prep both ends of the cord with 5-minute two-part epoxy, to make it easier to thread the cord through the chain. Allow to dry.
Thread the knotting cord through the second link in all five lengths of chain.
Slide the lengths of chain to the center of the cord, so that there is approximately five feet of cord on either side of the chain lengths.
Take the cord on the right side of the chain and thread it through the third link in all five lengths of chain, so that the end of the cord is coming out of the left side of the lengths of chain.
Pull the cord all the way through.
Take the cord coming out of the second links on the left side of the chain and thread it through the third link in all five lengths of chain.
Now, there should be two strands of cord going through the third links, with each end coming out of opposite sides.
Repeat steps five through eight for all of the rows in the bracelet until you pull both ends through the last set of links in the lengths of chain.
Loop either end of the cord around the bracelet. Pull the left end of the cord through the first set of links in the lengths of chain so it comes out of the right side and pull the right end through so that it comes out of the left side.
It will look like this when you pull the cord tighter.
Figure out how wide you will need the bracelet to be when putting it on your wrist. When the bracelet is fitted to the widest part of your hand, slide the TierraCast brass oxide pewter grooved large hole bead onto both ends of the knotting cord.
Knot your cord at the top of the bead and cut any extra cord past the knot. You can add 5-minute two-part epoxy to make your knot extra secure.
Now you are going to make a sliding knot to ensure your bracelet stays secure while wearing it. Cut a length of your favorite knotting cord approximately 6 inches long. We used red Chinese knotting cord. Place it over the end of your bracelet, so that it is perpendicular to the two strands of green knotting cord.
Loop the red knotting cord around the two strands of green cord and one end of the red cord.
Make several loops and then pass the other end of the red cord through the loops you made, so that the two ends of the red cord are sticking out of the loops in opposite directions.
Cinch your sliding knot tight.
Cut the ends of the red cord and dab them with 5-minute two-part epoxy and your bracelet is complete
