The fabric you choose for embroidery pieces can inspire the entire design! I followed the patterns in the fabric for the embroidery piece at the center of this necklace.
Create custom pendants for your necklaces with embroidery techniques. Cheri used a fun fabric in her embroidery piece and used the patterns in the fabric as inspiration for the rest of her design. With the addition of seed beads, her focal really stands out. You can find more inspiration for creating little embroidery pieces that make your style stand out in this Artbeads Cafe episode.
Draw a circle on your chosen fabric (Cheri used a white fabric) using the template provided in the Nunn Design antique silver-plated pewter grande circle necklace embroidery kit.
Cut a detail that you like from a patterned material for your focal. Cheri chose a circular pattern. Layer it onto the white fabric and use a blanket stitch to secure the pattern detail to the white fabric. Cheri used red thread for this since it matched the colors on the edge of her pattern detail. The embroidery kit provides basic instructions for simple embroidery stitches, as well.
Cheri then used blue thread to make a petal pattern between the center of the design in her patterned material and the red stitching she created in the previous step. What stitches and colors of thread you use may differ depending on the fabric you are working with.
With your needle coming out of the center of the pattern, add a TOHO 8/0 bead round in matte opaque turquoise, followed by a TOHO 15/0 bead round in opaque pepper red. Bring the needle back down through the 8/0 turquoise bead to stitch these beads in place.
With your needle coming out of the fabric next to the 8/0 turquoise bead, add two TOHO 11/0 bead rounds in semi-glazed lemongrass AB. Bring your needle down next to the first bead on the thread so that the two beads lay face up next to each other, framing the turquoise bead at the center. Loop around these beads again to reinforce the stitch. Add another lemongrass bead to the thread, then bring your needle down next to the second bead already stitched in place. Loop back through the second bead then back up through the third bead. Repeat until the center turquoise bead is surrounded by lemongrass beads.
Stitch a 15/0 pepper red bead in place between the lemongrass beads. You should have seven red beads. Bring your needle through one of the red beads and add three TOHO 15/0 bead rounds in transparent teal. Go through the next red bead. Repeat until you reach the first red bead again.
With your needle coming out of the fabric just above the red thread that is securing the patterned material to the white background, add two teal beads, a lemon grass bead, and two more teal beads to the thread. Stitch into the fabric to make a small scallop around the red thread. Repeat all the way around your patterned fabric. Go back and stitch the center lemongrass bead down to the fabric to keep the scallops in place.
Create a running stitch near the edge of your circle as outlined in the instructions of your kit to gather the fabric closed around the disc from the kit.
Glue the stitched piece into the bezel using 5-minute two-part epoxy. Allow to dry.

Nice choice! All or most of the products needed for this project are shown
