Cheri was inspired by the color of turquoise patina when she made this necklace. She matched the patina pendants at the center of her design with Dakota Stones gemstone beads in the perfect matching shades. To complement the organic look of the patina finish, she used TOHO Amiet thread to create a wrapped design on her donut pendant, as well as to create beaded crochet strands for the body of her necklace. You can see even more patina inspiration in this Artbeads Cafe episode.

Colors of a tropical sea come together in this simple yet playful necklace design. This design is a great idea for using up any leftover beads you may have. You'll love coming up with cool color palettes that speak to you. Learn how Cheri created her color palette and then dream up your own version of this necklace!

Please Note: Our designer Cheri used one of our recent Gift with Purchase bead mixes to create this necklace. Cheri separated the free Czech glass beads into separate color palettes. One color palette features purple, green and blue; the other color palette features yellow, pink and orange.

Ariel Color Palette One

Then, Cheri added in even more beads for each separate color palette. She used Swarovski beads and more Czech glass beads.

Ariel Color Palette Two

She made the necklace in these instructions with the purple, green and blue beads, but she has another color palette for an entirely different creation. You can create your own color palette with any beads you may have on hand, whether they were gifts from us or if they are leftovers from other projects!

Actress Ellen Terry portrays Lady Macbeth in a green crocheted dress decorated with jewel beetle wings in a famous John Singer Sargent painting. Our necklace is a perfect homage to that iconic costume. Cheri used a simple crochet stitch to decorate her green thread with Swarovski beads displaying the magical Crystal Scarabaeus Green effect. The shimmering beads twinkle among the thread, just like the beetle wings in Lady Macbeth's dress.

Simple bead crochet is one of Cheri's favorite techniques because it's fast, easy, and so stunning. The organic look of a crocheted bead strand is perfect for ocean themes, so Cheri used Czech glass beads in sunset ocean colors along with some cool shell-inspired components. The TierraCast shell buttons complete the look and also ties the set together perfectly.

Cheri wanted to show just how easy it is to use up any leftover beads you may have from other projects. Often, beads are available by the strand or you over estimate how many beads you need for a project. Keep those leftovers and put them to good use in a crochet design! In this tutorial, you'll learn how to approximately estimate how many beads and how much thread you'll need for a bead crochet project. See this project and more ideas for using your jewelry-making leftovers in this Artbeads Cafe episode.
