Bloodstone

Image of bloodstone gemstonesBloodstone, also known as heliotrope, gets its name from its appearance: a dark green chalcedony accented with drops of red. The red color comes from iron oxide. It is a traditional March birthstone.

According to legend, drops of Christ's blood fell to the ground and stained the stone beneath the cross, creating bloodstone. It was also once thought to be able to stop bleeding. Metaphysically, bloodstone is said to be a stone of courage and wisdom.
