Wanda The Witch Ornament Instructions Designed by Cheri Carlson
With the buzz surrounding modern books such as Harry Potter and Wicked, combined with the enduring popularity of old classics such as The Wizard of Oz, witches have cleaned up their reputation and won over our hearts. This charming "Wanda" ornament is simple to construct and displays sparkling red and yellow accents for a lovely Halloween decoration your family will enjoy for years to come.
Step one: First, construct the broom. Cut several 1 1/2-inch pieces of yellow Griffin bead cord. Attach a few of these pieces to a TierraCast® antique copper 1.25 inch bead bar by tightly wrapping with a 4-inch piece of 22 gauge tangerine artistic wire. Repeat until all of the silk cord pieces are firmly attached to the bar. Trim excess wire and trim the ends of the cord so that they are even. Set aside.
Step two: Next, create the leg dangles. Cut a 2-inch piece of 20 gauge black artistic wire and make a wire spiral at one end. Thread the following beads in this order: one 6mm Swarovski XILION bicone in light Siam, one round silver lined lime ab TOHO bead, one round silver lined Siam ruby TOHO bead, a lime bead, a ruby bead and a lime bead, and finish with a simple loop. Repeat to make the second leg and set aside.
Step three: Next, create the arm dangles. Thread a 2-inch gunmetal-plated 20 gauge head pin through one of the side holes on a gunmetal-plated pewter abstract oval bent framed link, so that the head of the pin rests on the decorated side of the link. Next, thread one TOHO ruby bead, one TOHO lime bead and seven ruby beads, onto the head pin, and finish with a wrapped loop. Repeat this process for the second arm but this time tightly wrap the wire around the broomstick (from step one) twice before completing the wrapped loop.
Step four: To create the body of the ornament, begin by cutting an 8-inch piece of 20 gauge black artistic wire. At one end, wrap the wire around round nose pliers twice to create two loops and finish by wrapping the wire as you would in a wrapped loop. Use the pliers to spread the loops until they are a few millimeters apart. Thread the following items in this order: two 17mm Swarovski Artemis beads in jet, the oval link with attached arms (from step three), one 10mm Swarovski ceramic faceted round bead in marbled yellow, one gunmetal-plated pewter abstract framed round link and one 12mm Swarovski Artemis bead in jet. Finish with a wrapped loop.
Step five: Attach one leg dangle to each loop at the bottom of the ornament. Thread a 9-inch piece of black 3/8-inch organza ribbon through the top loop on the ornament and tie the ends together in a knot.
