We made this necklace as a birthday gift for one of our favorite staff designers! Cheri loves natural tones and dangly things, so this seemed the perfect blend. This little bird pendant by Taina Hartman simply called out Cheri's name. The asymmetry reflects her solid yet whimsical nature, and the bright, earthy colors her sunny disposition. We hope she loves it! Happy Birthday Cheri! To view the matching bracelet, please click here.
Step one: Cut an 8¼-inch piece each of ultra micro fiber Suede by the foot in tan and blue. Slide six Catalina round glazed porcelain beads on the tan piece of fiber and six gold round glazed porcelain beads on the blue fiber. Place a dab of E6000 glue inside one of the sterling silver crimp ends and insert one end each of the blue and tan fibers and crimp using your nylon jaw pliers. Repeat to finish the other ends of the fiber. Allow to dry.
Step two: Cut two one-inch pieces of silver-plated medium rollo chain. Attach a 4.05mm sterling silver open jump ring to both ends of each of the chain pieces. Connect a chain piece to each of the loops on the sterling silver and resin blue bird pendant.
Step three: On the 18 sterling silver 1-inch head pins, use a mix of the following beads to create 18 dangles for the chain. The 6mm Swarovski jonquil and sapphire Margaritas, 6mm Swarovski light Colorado topaz rounds, 5mm Swarovski olivine rounds, 4mm Swarovski sapphire AB rounds, yellow aragonite chips, opaque matte khaki delicas, pewter antique silver small Turkish heishi spacers, pewter antique silver lily beadcaps and pewter silver antique 5mm tiffany beadcaps. Finish them with simple loops and attach them to the two chain sections. For help with simple loops please visit the Handy Tips section in the Learning Center.
Step four: Cut an 11½ inch piece of ZambaPro™ 49 .019 jewelry wire. Use a sterling silver 2x2mm crimp tube to crimp the wire to the sterling silver 8mm medium closed jump ring. Trim the excess wire. For help using crimp tubes please visit the Handy Tips section in the Learning Center. Use the three Czech glass ocean blue with Picasso grooved rectangles, the two Czech glass hexagon 15x8mm crystal with Picasso, the two 6mm Czech glass blue silk Picasso bricks, 5x3.5mm crystal Picasso luster roundelles, 6mm Swarovski faceted sand opal rounds, 8mm Swarovski faceted sand opal roundelles and a mix of the remaining beads in a random fashion to a length of 8½ inches. Use a crimp tube to crimp to the jump ring on one of the chain sections.
