Tree Of Doors Necklace Instructions Designed by Cynthia Kimura
Warm copper accents contrast beautifully with a cool turquoise background in this "Tree of Doors" necklace design. The pendant attaches to the necklace with a toggle clasp and can easily be removed when a more casual appearance is desired. This versatile necklace is simple enough for beginners to construct.
Step one: Cut out a 1x1-inch image to fit inside of an antique copper-plated pewter small framed square pendant; we chose an image of a tree. Apply a coat of Nunn Design adhesive to the inside of the frame. Press the image into the frame, smoothing out any bubbles, and let dry for 20 minutes. Apply a coat of Nunn Design sealant, and allow it to dry. Repeat with a second coat. This process will ensure that the image remains intact and free of watermarks.
Step two: Use the pour spout to carefully dispense a layer of Nunn Design Gel du Soleil glaze into the square pendant over the image to fill it halfway. Pop any surfaced air bubbles with a needle and place the pendant under a UV lamp for 20 minutes. Pour a second layer of glaze until it is filled level with the frame. Pop any surfaced air bubbles and place under the UV lamp to cure for 20 minutes. Set aside.
Step three: Next, construct the dangles. Attach a 21 gauge 5.5mm antique copper-plated open jump ring to a 32mm antique copper-plated brass dragonfly pendant. Set aside. Attach a jump ring to each end of an antique copper-plated pewter leaf link. Attach the bar of an antique copper-plated pewter 3 petal leaf toggle clasp to the jump ring at the pointed end of the leaf link and the square pendant to the jump ring at the bottom of the leaf. Set aside.
Step four: Cut a 22-inch piece of ZambaPro™ 49 .019 jewelry wire and attach one end to a jump ring using a 14k/20 gold-filled 2x2mm crimp tube. For help using a crimp tube visit the handy tips section of the learning center. Attach this jump ring to the bar of an antique copper-plated brass leaves with flowers toggle clasp.
Step five: Thread the following beads in this order: twenty 8mm Czech fire-polished opaque turquoise Picasso beads, the dragonfly pendant, a fire-polished turquoise bead, a Czech glass turquoise and light pink with Picasso grooved rectangle bead, a fire-polished turquoise bead, a Czech glass green Picasso pointed oval bead and three fire-polished turquoise beads. Add the loop end of the antique copper-plated pewter 3 petal leaf toggle clasp by threading it onto the wire through its small loop. Next add three fire-polished turquoise beads, a pointed oval bead, a fire-polished turquoise bead, a grooved rectangle bead, a fire-polished turquoise bead, an antique copper-plated pewter bead cap, a fire-polished turquoise bead, a bead cap and nineteen fire-polished turquoise beads.
Step six: Use a crimp tube to finish to the loop end of the leaves with flowers toggle clasp. Connect the toggle bar on the pendant dangle to its matching ring on the necklace.
