No problems with this hammer since 2012January 3, 2015
I own this exact same hammer set that I bought back on 02/09/2012 when I was first starting out working with sheet metal and stamping, etc., and just happened upon this again today when I was looking at some of my past orders at Artbeads - looking for something that I wanted to reorder. I noticed that - for one thing - the PRICE on this texturing hammer set is $1.00 LESS now than it was almost 3 years ago when I bought it at Artbeads. I wanted to point that out, because when does that ever happen anymore? Not at the grocery store or gas station or most other places ... and I saw that with a number of my other items in past orders, going back to 2010 when I first started beading and discovered Artbeads.com. No, I don't work for the company; but when I saw that and then noticed the other (negative) review and that there were no others since then, I wanted to comment. I remember thinking that it was a lot of money to spend at the time ... and it still is, but I justified it to myself with the versatility. I know that I've used it much more than I even thought that I would when I bought it: using different textures in combination on the same piece of work, and doing more personalized stamping and other work with metal sheets and blanks than I thought that I would be doing at the time. I've even sprung for a circle cutter/punch and a nice dapping set, and a number of other "fun" tools since then (having bought a cheaper wood set first).
I've used this set many/many (and many) times since buying it, and I have had the experience where I needed to tighten the screw-on ring up. If I don't think about that when changing heads, and don't tighten it down tight enough, I do have to go back and re-tighten it. But you can kind of "hear" the difference in the sound it makes when you're hammering on something - especially on a metal bench block. It makes a hollow kind of sound when you strike with it if it's even a little bit loose, and that reminds me to stop and tighten it better. I've NEVER had the experience of having it fall off or fly off of the handle.
I don't know what else they could do, except maybe to add some kind of rubber gasket in between - like when you screw on the bottom of a kitchen blender container. I don't like to tighten it so much that it will be too hard to get it off, since I do change the heads so often, so I don't find that to be a bother.

Texture hammer/interchangeable headsOctober 13, 2012
I was excited to get this tool, but when I tried to use it, the screw that holds the texture plate loosened every time, so it would not hold the texture plate in place. Called customer service and they immediately made arrangements to send a new one and a ppe to return it. The replacement arrived as promised, went to hammer and the screw face fell off after three whacks. Customer service again, apologized and made arrangements to return and to check the whole inventory of this product before selling more. I would not recommend until that has been done, but am waiting for the fix as it would be a great tool for jewelry making. Great service!
