As brightly colored and refreshing as a popsicle on a summer day, this necklace is sure to delight the young woman in your life. It was created during a Mommy & Me jewelry designing day where we experimented with the fun and easy-to-use transfer sheets. The best part of this design is its ability to be recreated in a myriad of colors and themes.
These transfer sheets were so much fun that we couldn't create just one design. Step One: Cut out the word of your choosing from the decorative words transfer sheet. Place the word in water for approximately 15 seconds, then follow the instructions on the packaging to transfer the word onto your antique silver-plated pewter large circle tag link. Dab off any excess water. Coat the tag in a thin layer of sealant to keep the word in place. Let dry.
Step Two: Use the StazOn ink pad in jet black and any small stamp you like to add detail to the tag. We chose a watermelon stamp that we purchased at our local craft store. Press down firmly on the tag with the stamp, and make sure to not rock it in order to create a clean image. Let dry.
Step Three: Cut a nine-inch piece of ZambaPro 49 .019 jewelry wire. Crimp one end of the wire to a 4.60mm sterling silver open jump ring using a 2x2mm sterling silver crimp tube. For help with crimp tubes visit the Handy Tips section of the Learning Center. Depending on the age of the child, you may need to help them with the jump rings and crimp tubes. Our kids find it easier to flatten the crimp tubes rather than use the bead crimping tool.
Step Four: On the wire, string an approximately three-inch section of 8/0 TOHO hex beads in purple lined aqua. Then string a 5mm gold nugget heishi spacer, an antique gold grapes charm attached with a 4.60mm jump ring and a spacer. For help with jump rings visit the Handy Tips section of the Learning Center. Continue with a one-inch section of purple lined aqua beads. Add a 1 1/2-inch section of 8/0 TOHO hex beads in transparent peridot and a 1 1/2-inch section of 8/0 TOHO round beads in rainbow light Siam ruby. Attach an antique brass pineapple charm to a 4.60mm jump ring and string it on the wire, allowing it to move freely over the seed beads. Crimp the end of the wire to one end of the silver-plated pewter large circle tag link using a crimp tube.
Step Five: Repeat steps three and four to create the other half of the necklace.
Step Six: Attach the 13.1mm oval trigger clasp to one end of the necklace using a 5.95mm sterling silver open jump ring. Attach an approximately 2 1/2-inch piece of handmade 060 round link chain to the other end of the necklace to create an extender.
