Sky High Necklace Instructions Designed by Cynthia Kimura
Swarovski sparkle combines with avian beauty in this dazzling necklace. The multi-strand center is the perfect backdrop for the dangling pendant and you'll love how the soft suede feels against the skin. If you love birds or the stunning beauty of Swarovski beads, you have to learn how to make this necklace!
Creating the Pendant
Step one: String a TierraCast 5mm gold-plated pewter plain heishi spacer onto a 2-inch satin Hamilton gold-plated 20 gauge eye pin, followed by the blue bird on cream rectangle black onyx bead. Create a simple loop at the top of the eye pin. For help making simple loops, please see our Simple Loop Handy Tip.
Step two: Attach another eye pin to the simple loop you just created. String a Swarovski 18mm briolette bead in Crystal Golden Shadow onto this eye pin. Attach the end of the eye pin to the TierraCast gold hammertone bail by creating a simple loop.
Step three: Add a Swarovski 13mm cabochette pendant in Crystal Luminous Green to the end of the eye pin underneath the bird bead using a gold-filled 14K 6.1mm open jump ring. Attach two more cabochette pendants to this jump ring using two 6.1mm jump rings. Set aside your pendant for now.
Constructing the Necklace
Step one: Cut a length of jewelry wire approximately eight inches long. Add random patterns of the Swarovski 6mm Petrol round pearls, the Swarovski 3mm Copper round pearls, the Swarovski 6mm Provence Lavender-Chrysolite Blend XILION Bicones, the Swarovski 6mm Crystal Luminous Green faceted rounds, the Swarovski 8x6mm Crystal AB mini oval beads and the TierraCast spacers to the strand. In the middle of your pattern, make sure to string the jewelry wire through the bail of the pendant you created. Repeat this step to create four more beaded strands. Your pendant should rest in the middle of all four strands.
Step two: Attach the ends of the jewelry strands to an eye pin by crimping it in place with a sterling silver 3x3mm crimp tube. Take a look at our Handy Tip for more information on how to crimp. String a JBB 9mm brass hammered end cap onto the eye pin so that it covers the crimp. Next, string a Petrol pearl onto the eye pin. Finish the eye pin by creating a wrapped loop. Our Wrapped Loop Handy Tip will provide you with more instruction on how to do this.
Step three: Cut a length of the ultra micro fiber suede in black approximately 18 inches long. String it through the wrapped loop you made so that it lies in the center. Thread a Swarovski 9.5mm BeCharmed pavé barrel bead with gold-brushed baguette metallics on a shining gold base onto both ends of the suede, and push it down over the wrapped loop.
Step four: Add a TierraCast gold-plated pewter distressed oval spacer bead to each end of the suede. Bring the ends of the suede over a 14K/20 9mm gold-filled open jump ring and loop them around back through the oval spacer bead. Using pliers, pinch the oval spacer beads closed around the suede. Add one half of the JBB gold-plated pewter flower toggle clasp to the 9mm jump ring. Check out our Jump Ring Handy Tip Video if you need help opening and closing jump rings. Repeat steps two through four for the other side of the necklace.
