| We just can’t resist the allure of the new Swarovski flatback rhinestones! Everything we see we want to embellish. Our resident designer has gone mad with rhinestone fever. She recently finished an adorable summer outfit for her daughter and we just had to share the idea with you!
Step one: Pre-wash and thoroughly dry all articles you will be embellishing.
Step two: Starting with the shirt draw the hearts on with a water soluble marking (or air erase) pen. You can get these in the quilting section of your local craft or fabric store. If you need a template you can find stencils sold with scrap booking products.
Step three: Use a Perfect Positioner or a toothpick with a small ball of beeswax at the end as a tool to pick up your rhinestones. Apply a small amount of glue to the back and place them around your pattern. For detailed instructions, please see the Handy Tips section of the Learning Center.
Step four: For the skirt, follow the same process. Use a bent headpin as a ruler to make sure your design is evenly spaced, (as demonstrated in Swarovski Flip-Flop idea).
Step Five: The pattern for the pockets is: one Light Topaz 20, followed by three Topaz AB 16, start and finish with the bigger stones.
Step Six: For the butterfly, just add four stones to the tips of its wings. We used Sapphire 9.
Note: When gluing the rhinestones to denim, you will want to be generous with the glue (we have found that E6000 works the best). Don’t worry if it comes up around the stones a bit, it will dry clear.
Note: When using Jewel BondTM, make sure you wait a full seven days before washing the garment. Always turn the items inside out before washing and drying. Do not dry clean! Hand washing and drying recommended.
Tip: If you have residue from the wax on your stones, dab a cotton swab in acetone or nail polish remover and swipe it lightly over the stone. It will shine up nicely.
