Celebrate Easter in style this year with these fun eggs decorated with Swarovski flatback crystals. These eggs follow in the tradition of Ukrainian Pysanky eggs, but give them a more modern feel. Make these eggs a part of your Easter tradition, as they can be saved and reused in your home décor year after year.
Information on how to blow eggs, which hollows them and prepares them for decorating, can be found on the internet.
Step One: Dye your eggs in colors of your choosing. We used food coloring to dye our eggs, but you may choose to purchase a kit at your local store. Let dry.
Step Two: Using Gem-Tac, apply the Swarovski flatback crystals to the eggs in whatever pattern you want, using colors and sizes of your choosing. You'll want to cover the small hole in the egg with a flatback. We did our eggs freehand, although if you feel more comfortable, you could draw the pattern on your eggs before attaching the crystals. For help gluing rhinestones, visit the Handy Tips section of the Learning Center. See the list of crystals we used below.
Step Three: Cut a piece of organza ribbon the size you will need it, fold it in half, and tie the two ends together. Place an ample amount of glue on the ribbon, and let it dry. This stiffens the ribbon and makes sure it stays inside the egg. After the glue is dry, place more glue inside the egg as well as on the ribbon. Slide the knot of the ribbon inside the egg. Let the ribbon dry. Placing crystals around the ribbon hole will help keep the ribbon in place. If you find that your hole is too large, it is useful to place a bit of tissue paper over the hole after placing the ribbon inside and then gluing crystals on top to help keep the ribbon in place. The color of ribbon we used has been listed below.
