Clearing the Cache in Internet Explorer

Often referred to as the cache, the Temporary Internet Files folder contains a kind of travel record of the items you have seen, heard, or downloaded from the Web, including images, sounds, Web pages, even "cookies". Typically these items are stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder. All of those files stored in your cache take up space, so from time to time, you may want to clear out these files to free up some space on your computer and to resolve speed issues sometimes encountered with web sites. This is called clearing the cache. There are a few different methods for doing this depending on which version of Internet Explorer you are currently using.

Internet Explorer 6
We'll begin with Internet Explorer 6, or IE6.
First, go up to your menu and click on "Tools", from the drop down menu, select Internet Options > General Tab > Temporary Internet files > Delete Files > OK.
Your Temporary Internet Files are now cleared.

Internet Explorer 7
IE7 is very similar to IE6 except for a few minor options and menu changes.
Start by clicking "Tools" in your menu, then select Internet Options > General Tab > Browsing History > Delete > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Files > Yes.
Your Temporary Internet Files are now cleared.

Internet Explorer 8
If you have the newest version of Internet Explorer, IE8, the menus have changed significantly. In the top menu, click "Safety", then locate and click "Temporary Internet Files and History". Now click "Delete".
Your Temporary Internet Files are now cleared.
