The Moonlit Mermaid Jewelry Set Instructions Designed by Cynthia Kimura
Many legends tell of mysterious mermaids perching on rocks and singing in the middle of the night. The porcelain beads in this jewelry set bring those legends to life wonderfully. Ocean blue colors mingle with celestial golds, complementing the mermaid scene depicted on the porcelain beads. Everyone will be entranced by the harmonious mermaid style of this jewelry set!
Step one: To make the beaded tassel of the necklace, cut a yard of FireLine. Make a knot around the loop of a sterling silver 22 gauge 2-inch eye pin. String 19 seed beads from the Seabreeze 8/0 Designer Seed Bead Blend onto the thread, followed by the Swarovski 16mm Indicolite starfish pendant. Add three more seed beads to the thread, then bring your needle back through the first 16 beads on the strand. Go back around the eye pin and back through the beads to strengthen the strand. Knot again at the eye pin to secure the strand.
Step two: Use the same technique in step one for the rest of the strands, but follow these stringing patterns for the rest of the strands:
String 17-20 seed beads, followed by a bead from the Swarovski 4mm Round Southwest Flair Designer Blend and three more seed beads. Go back up through the Swarovski round and the first seed beads strung. Repeat to make three more strands.
String 16 seed beads, followed by the Nunn Design antique silver-plated pewter seahorse charm. Go back up through the seed beads.
String a 10mm antique brass-plated pewter filigree end cap onto the eye pin, followed by a 4mm Southwest Flair bead. Attach it to the bead cap end of the sterling silver 22 gauge 3-inch bead cap eye pin by creating a wrapped loop. Instead of trimming the wire, you can wrap the excess around the Swarovski bead. Then, string a seed bead onto the bead cap eye pin, followed by the 30x40mm oval mermaid porcelain bead and another seed bead. Make a wrapped loop at the top of the eye pin. Set your pendant with tassel aside for now.
Step three: Cut a length of jewelry wire approximately 20 inches long. String a 14K/20 gold-filled 2x2mm crimp tube onto the wire, followed by the 6mm antique brass-plated open jump ring. Bring the wire back through the crimp tube and crimp in place. For help with crimping, see our Handy Tip. Then, add a 3mm gold-filled crimp cover to the crimp tube. Learn how to use a crimp cover here. Attach the TierraCast brass oxide pewter heirloom clasp set to the jump ring. For help opening and closing jump rings, please see our Handy Tip Video.
Step four: String the following pattern onto the wire:
One TierraCast antique gold 5mm coiled Heishi spacer
One Swarovski 6mm round from the Southwest Flair Designer Blend
One Swarovski 5mm round pearl in Petrol
One 6mm Southwest Flair Swarovski round
Repeat this pattern nine times, then add a 5mm heishi spacer and three seed beads. String your pendant onto the wire and make a mirror image of the bead pattern on the other side of the pendant. Don't be afraid to randomize the colors of the Southwest Flair beads in your pattern.
Step five: String a crimp tube onto the end of the wire, followed by a jump ring. Bring the wire back through the crimp tube and crimp in place. Cover the tube with a crimp cover. Attach the other half of the clasp to the jump ring.
Step one: String the 18x24mm oval mermaid porcelain bead onto a 2-inch sterling silver 22 gauge eye pin. Then, string on a heishi spacer, a Petrol pearl and another heishi spacer. Make a simple loop at the top of the beads. Attach the sterling silver French hook earwire with ball and coil to the earring by opening the simple loop and inserting the earwire. Close the loop to secure the earwire in place.
Step two: String a 4mm Southwest Flair bead onto a 22 gauge sterling silver 1-inch head pin. Attach it to the loop at the bottom of the earring by making a simple loop. Repeat three times, mixing up the colors used as you go. Repeat steps one and two to make the other earring.
