Mia T-Shirt Instructions Designed by Cynthia Kimura
Entertain your daughter and create something she'll wear time and again with this inspiring Mommy and Me project. To give you an idea of how to begin, we've chosen to embellish an adorable pink and black top with buttons, Swarovski hotfix rhinestones and a sparkling pendant. Choose a top your daughter will love and get started!
As we shopped for this top, we looked for something that already had designs. Especially for younger children, it will be easier to add rhinestones to an established design, rather than creating one from scratch. If your top doesn't have designs, try letting her follow an established line, like we did along the neckline of this top.
Note: Since the BeJeweler® is designed to melt the glue on the back of the rhinestones, the tip can get very hot. Make sure to always supervise your child when working with this product. If you are uncomfortable with her using the BeJeweler®, let her place the rhinestones with the Jewel Setter and do the gluing yourself.
Step one: Put something behind the area where you will be applying the rhinestones. When the adhesive on the back of the rhinestones melts, it can seep through the fabric. A piece of aluminum foil or an old cookie sheet will work great.
Step two: Use the Jewel Setter to arrange the rhinestones. To accent the peace signs on our top, we used 30 Swarovski H2028 SS16 hotfix XILION crystal rose flatbacks, 24 Swarovski H2028 SS12 hotfix XILION crystal rose flatbacks, 15 Swarovski H2028 SS20 hotfix XILION fuchsia rose flatbacks and 22 Swarovski H2028 SS20 hotfix XILION padparadscha rose flatbacks. For the centers of the black hearts, we used 14 padparadscha rose flatbacks.
Step three: When you are happy with the placement of the stones, use the BeJeweler® to attach the rhinestones to the fabric. For help using the BeJeweler®, please visit the Handy Tips section in the Learning Center. When the rhinestones have cooled, gently pull them away from the foil or cookie sheet, making sure not to stretch the fabric.
Step four: Add the larger sew-on accents to your top. We used a #12 short beading needle and BeadSmith black silamide thread to sew on the two antique silver morning flower buttons and the Swarovski 6228 18mm faceted heart pendant rose pendant.
