Fashioned from sparkling crystals and knit gold-plated chain, this lariat necklace beautifully catches the light. Use it to dress up a simple blouse or to complement a sleek black dress. It's easy enough for a beginner to create in approximately 30 minutes.
Step one: Cut a 30-inch piece of 3mm gold-plated copper knit over gold-plated brass bead chain. String the 12x8mm Naoto square glass bead with grommets and the 8x14mm smoked topaz crystal with silver grommet roundel onto the chain.
Step two: Roll one end of the SilverSilk knit chain to make it easier to work with and apply a small amount of glue to its tip. Insert the end of the SilverSilk into a gold-plated pewter fancy crimp end. Use nylon jaw pliers to gently crimp the ends around the SilverSilk. Step three: Attach the loop piece of the gold-filled large twist toggle with ball end to one of the crimp ends using a gold-filled 14K open jump ring. Set the chain aside.
Step three: String a Swarovski 5mm XILION bicone in Olivine onto a gold-filled 1.5-inch head pin. Finish with a wrapped loop. Repeat for the two remaining Olivine bicones and for the two Swarovski 4mm XILION bicones in Smoke Topaz.
Step four: String the dangles that you just created onto a jump ring in an alternating pattern. Use that jump ring to connect the bar piece of the toggle clasp to the remaining crimp end. Thread the bar piece through the loop and let it dangle several inches to complete the look.
The beads on this necklace can be arranged various ways. For one look, slide the two large-hole beads along the chain until they rest against the loop piece of the toggle clasp. Rest them on the bar for another look.
