Like the mist slowly rising from the water on a crisp winter morning, this quiet necklace takes its time revealing the beauty it holds. The mystic blue pendant draws in the eyes while the smoky silver additions surround it with calming whispers.
Creating the Pendant
Step one:
We created a seed bead bezel around the Swarovski 39x28mm fancy oval in Montana Sapphire by creating a two bead backstitch. Use Swarovski 5mm round pearls in Petrol for the first row around the stone, then a row of TOHO 11/0 bead rounds in metallic dark copper. Then, create two more rows using TOHO 11/0 bead rounds in dichroic-lined aqua blue rainbow. Read our Handy Tip on how to make a two seed bead back stitch if you need help with this technique. Finish the bezel with a sunshine edge using metallic dark copper TOHOs.
Step two:
Use Nymo D thread in Turquoise to stitch three Kabela Design antique silver-plated brass diathesis flower embellishments onto the bezel and use Jewel Bond to glue one Swarovski 2058 SS30 XILION rose enhanced flatback in Crystal to the center of each flower.
Creating the strands for the necklace
Step one:
Twist the midnight blue and light blue with copper metallic edges hand-dyed silk ribbon and 5.5mm antique silver-plated large snake chain together. Attach one end from each material to a single 19 gauge sterling silver 4.9x7.6mm oval jump ring. Use one 4x4mm sterling silver crimp tube to secure the ribbon end. If you need help with jump rings watch our Handy Tip video. Do this for the other side.
Step two:
Connect the "hook" portion of the antique silver-plated brass pointy leaves hook and eye clasp to one jump ring and the "eye" portion to the other jump ring.
Creating the Bail
Step one:
Step two:
Step three:
Thread one beading needle with approximately an arm's length of thread and tie a knot at the end. Bring the needle in between the sunshine edge and the nearest row of aqua blue rainbow TOHOs. Pull the needle through to hide the knot. We will refer to the beads in the sunshine edge as "edge beads" and the row of aqua blue seed beads as the "outer row."
From the left, bring the needle up through the nearest bead on the outer row.
Bring the needle down through the nearest edge bead. This will be your "entry bead."
Step four:
Step five:
Step six:
Thread fifteen bead rounds in metallic dark copper onto the needle, and then pass the needle back around through the entry bead to form a loop.
Bring the needle through all fifteen bead rounds once more to secure the loop.
Bring the needle through the edge bead closest to the loop and thread fifteen more dark copper rounds. This edge bead becomes the second "entry bead." Then, bring the needle back through this second entry bead to make a second loop. Center the strands of the ribbon and chain inside the first loop to make sure it fits.
Step seven:
Step eight:
Step nine:
Repeat step six as many times as you like for the desired number of loops. At this point you may choose to work around the ribbon and chain, or thread them through when the bail is completed. When you have reached your desired number of loops, bring the needle through one new edge bead.
Bring the needle through an edge bead just to the left of the previous edge bead from Step eight.
Thread the needle back through the first entry bead.
Step ten:
Step eleven:
Step twelve:
Create a knot by pulling the needle through the thread line formed around the first entry bead. This will form a loop using the thread behind the needle. Bring the needle back through this loop and pull tight.
To hide the thread, bring the needle back down through the stitches between the beads.
Pull the needle through the two nearest beads in the outer row. Trim any excess thread.
