Summer Fun Bottlecap Magnets Instructions Designed by Cynthia Kimura
Summer Fun Bottlecap Magnets Have fun working together on these bottle cap magnets! Their small size makes them quick and easy to make, but with their intricate details it will look like it took hours! Your kids will be proud to make cool artwork, and you'll feel good using recycled products! Purchase self-adhesive magnets at any craft or office supply store to attach to the back of your finished bottle caps, and be sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines. Bumblebee MagnetStep one: Choose a colorful scrapbook paper to fit inside your bottle cap if you wish. We chose dark paper with a floral pattern for ours. Use Nunn Design glue to adhere your paper to the surface and allow glue to dry. Using side cutters, snip the stringing hole off of the antique silver-plated bumblebee charm and set aside.
Step two: Cover the silver-plated abstract round link with Gilders Paste in African Bronze using your finger or Q-tip. For help with how to use Gilders Paste, visit the Handy Tips section. Allow the Gilders Paste to dry completely. Center the link inside the bottle cap.
Step three: Apply a thin layer of Magic-Glos™ in the center of your bottle cap and spread the gloss across the bottle cap using a toothpick to create a smooth, flat surface. Make sure your link is completely submerged in the gloss. Place your bottle cap under a UV lamp to cure. This could take anywhere from five to fifteen minutes depending on thickness. Gently place the 14mm white resin flower inside your bottle cap so it is centered with the link and apply a second layer of Magic-Glos™ that fills the rest of the bottle cap, partially submerging the resin flower. You may have to smooth out your surface once more with a toothpick. Place the bumblebee charm to the right of the resin flower so it rests atop the Magic-Glos™ and will be held in place by the gloss.
Butterfly Magnet
Step one: Cut out a piece of glittery craft paper to fit the inside of the bottle cap and glue inside, allowing to dry completely. Randomly spread TOHO™ bead rounds 11/0 in opaque yellow AB and TOHO™ bead rounds 8/0 color-lined violet/crystal and TOHO™ bead rounds 8/0 in Ceylon baby girl pink around the edge of the bottle cap. Apply a thin layer of Magic-Glos® to cover your beads and cure under a UV lamp. Follow the steps used in the bumblebee magnet for Magic-Glos™ application guidelines.
Step two: Place the TierraCast® rhodium-plated retro butterfly charm inside your bottle cap towards the bottom edge and fill the bottle cap with Magi-Gloss™ so it creates a flat, smooth surface across the top. Set under UV lamp for approximately five to fifteen minutes to cure.
Love Magnet
Step one: Display the TierraCast® antique silver beaded heart links inside the bottle cap so that they form a triangular shape, with the bottom of each heart pointing towards the center of the bottle cap. Sprinkle a fair amount of TOHO™ bead rounds 11/0 in transparent Siam ruby inside one of the hearts to cover the surface. Repeat this process for a second heart charm, using TOHO™ bead rounds 11/0 in transparent sapphire and once more with TOHO™ bead rounds 11/0 in opaque yellow AB in the third heart charm. Randomly spread the TOHO™ bead triangles 11/0 in transparent crystal AB across the remaining surface of the bottle cap to cover any exposed space.
Step two: Fill the bottle cap with Magic-Glos™ so it creates a flat, smooth surface across the top of the bottle cap and allow it to cure under a UV lamp. Follow the steps used in the bumblebee magnet for Magic-Glos™ application guidelines.
Step three: Cut out the word "Love" from the Nunn Design Decorative Words transfer sheet and apply it to the center of your bottle cap. Apply a final thin layer of Magic-Glos™ for a thorough hold and let cure under UV lamp.
