Harvest Flowers Headpiece Instructions Designed by Cynthia Kimura
If you're planning a fanciful fall or winter wedding, this delightful headpiece is perfect! The bold colors reflecting fire embers and fall foliage are ideal for the one-of-a-kind bride. This piece could also be created in crystal with white or cream pearls for a traditional look.
To make this piece, purchase a combed headband that will work with your desired hair style. We will outline how to create each component separately, but each of the components were created on a single two-foot-long strand of 26 gauge brass non-tarnish artistic wire. You can adjust the placement of each component as you like.
Crystal Flowers We made three crystal flowers and clustered them in the center. You may repeat these steps to make as many flowers as you like.
Step one: Find the center of the wire and thread on one Swarovski 15mm faceted bicone in Crystal AB. Bring the wire around the bead on outside and then twist the wire together at the bottom. Repeat this five more times to create the five other petals. Be sure to twist the wire and not the bead to ensure the beads do not chip. Twist the two wire ends together.
Step two: Pass both wire ends through one Swarovski 18mm orchid pendant in Olivine and then pass one wire end back up through the center of the flower cluster. Add one 8mm orange CZ round bead to the wire, making sure the holes sit horizontally. Pass the wire back down through the orchid pendant and twist. Set aside.
Leaf Shapes We made eight leaves and arranged them in a natural manner, but you may do as many as you like.
Step one: Thread seven Swarovski 3mm faceted rounds in Olivine onto the wire. Loop the wire up and over the last bead, and then bring the wire back down through the other six.
Step two: Pull one wire back up so it parallels the beaded "stem" and add five more beads. Wrap the wire around the "stem" between the fifth and sixth bead. Pull that wire down to parallel the other side of the stem and add five more beads to the wire. Twist at the base of the stem. Bring the wire back up so it parallels the first row and add nine beads. Wrap the wire around the "stem" between beads six and seven. Then thread nine more beads onto the wire. Bring the wire back down to the bottom of the "stem" and twist. Set aside.
Purple and Crystal AB Spray Accents We made spray accents of varying lengths to work into the embellished design.
Step one: Thread seven Swarovski 3mm faceted rounds in Purple Velvet onto the wire and bring the wire back down through the last six beads. Bend the wire back and add seven more beads, thread the wire back down through the six beads. Bend the wire back and add seven more beads, thread the wire back down through the six beads and then twist to secure the ends. Repeat to create one more purple spray, the repeat using the Crystal AB 3mm faceted rounds to make additional sprays.
Step two: To work in the Swarovski 8mm round pearl in Dark Purple utilize the wires from the other components you made. This will help to fill in any gaps in the design as you go and helps to reduce the amount of wire that actually gets wrapped onto the headband. Make sure the stringing hole of the pearl sits horizontally on the wire.
Step three: Taking into consideration, your wedding hairstyle, gather the components you created and wire them onto the headband. Trim any excess wire.
Keeping the cording on the spool and working from one end of the headband to the other, wrap the 2mm ivory satin cord around to cover up the artistic wire and give the head piece a delicate feel. Tie a knot on either end and secure with GS Hypo cement.
