Add some twinkle to your toes with a twist on fancy footwear. Whether you're ready to hit the boardwalk or stroll through a summer carnival, your flip-flops will be rocking hot style.
Step one:
Choose a pair of flip-flops with a plain band that has room to be embellished. Decide where your starting point will be on the band. It is best to try on the flip-flops and mark where the band rests under your foot so that this space can be left bare. We chose to start approximately 2 inches up from the bottom. Mark this spot by piercing a hole through the band. We used an awl, but a leather hole punch works best.
Step two:
Cut approximately 40 inches of clear 0.8mm elasticity cord. String it through the hole you created in the band and tie a surgeon’s knot. Dab a small amount of GS hypo cement on the knot to secure. Wrap the elasticity around the band a few times and then string on three fire polished beads. Make sure these three beads sit on top of the band as you tightly wrap the elasticity around again and add your next three fire polished beads, once again making sure they sit neatly on top of the band. We chose to do color block patterns, with three to four rows of each color.. Continue adding three beads after each wrap until you reach the center of the band. Then, add one accent bead. We chose to use one Swarovski 4mm faceted round in Black Diamond.
Step three:
Repeat this process until you have covered the desired area of the band. Once you reach the end, poke another hole and secure with a surgeon’s knot and a dab of adhesive. If you run out of elasticity you can add more by tying the ends together with a surgeon’s knot and wrapping the knot to the underside of the band.
