Learn how to add a clasp to knotted pearl designs for a polished and professional design full of style. Knotting between pearls is a popular way to secure strands and incorporating the right clasp will add even more security. With this Handy Tip, you'll discover how to add a clasp in a seamless manner.
|STEP ONE||STEP TWO||STEP THREE|
|To begin, tie a knot in the tail end of the thread and string on three pearls and one half of the clasp. A needle is included and already attached to Griffin silk bead cord, which makes it even easier to get started! Make sure that the bead holes of these three pearls are large enough for the thread to pass through twice. If not, you can enlarge the holes with a bead reamer, as shown in this Handy Tip.||Make a half knot to secure the clasp to the thread.||Make another half knot and pull tight.|
|STEP FOUR||STEP FIVE||STEP SIX|
|Thread the needle through the first pearl closest to the clasp.||Slide it up snug to the knot at the clasp, then make a half knot.||Pull the knot tight. You can apply some adhesive to the knot now, while it is exposed. Or, you can wait until all of the knots are made.|
|STEP SEVEN||STEP EIGHT||STEP NINE|
|Thread through the second pearl and make a half knot as you did for the first pearl. Apply adhesive.||Thread through the third pearl in the same manner.||Trim the tail close to the pearl.|
|STEP TEN||STEP ELEVEN||STEP TWELVE|
|String on all but the last three pearls and begin knotting between each of them. If you would like more information on how to knot between pearls, please see this Handy Tip.||When you reach the end, add the last three pearls to the strand and the other half of the clasp.||Make a half knot at the clasp…|
|STEP THIRTEEN||STEP FOURTEEN||STEP FIFTEEN|
|…Position the tweezers where you want the knot to be. Keep a tiny bit of space between the three pearls so that you can come back and knot between them.||Make another half knot and pull it tight at the clasp.||Thread the needle through the first pearl.|
|STEP SIXTEEN||STEP SEVENTEEN||STEP EIGHTEEN|
|Make a half knot between the first two pearls closest to the clasp.||Pull the knot tight.||Go through the next bead and make a knot like you did for the previous pearl.|
|STEP NINETEEN||STEP TWENTY|
|Weave the tail through the next pearl and trim it close to the pearl. Take care not to cut the knot that is already there. Apply adhesive to the knots to ensure they are secure.||Now you have a knotted design with a clasp to secure it all. The knots will add even more security if your strand breaks — the pearls won't fall everywhere! Bring another layer of security and professional style to designs by learning How to Use French Wire. |
