When our Round 11 Jewelry Design Star Venita Holzer was first introduced to seed beads 30 years ago, she never knew how much her passion would blossom. She first started using seed beads to accent her cross stitch projects and then when her son Shane was old enough, the two of them began beading Native American jewelry together. Her sister (Round 10 Jewelry Design Star Venice Wilkins) even got in on the fun! Then, when Shane turned 15, his interests turned away from designing with Mom. Venita stopped beading for about 17 years after that. But, about a year and a half ago, her sister Venice introduced her to bead weaving and they were both hooked! In fact, Venita and Venice admit to spending hours together watching videos and studying beading books to learn new techniques. She and her sister have started turning a profit with their hobby, selling their designs on their website velvetneedlesonline.com. Venita says that her winning design, 'Springs Mist,' is in fact her favorite design because it 'it represents that something can be feminine but still be bold and stand out'. We agree in the beauty it beholds!
