Accenting dark metal and suede with bright splashes of color, this bold necklace is a wonderful example of the bold and sleek style featured in the Metropolitan Mystery fashion trend this season. This design is a great way to use up some of those smaller scraps of chain every designer has laying around.
Step One: Fold the black ultra micro fiber suede by the foot in half. Thread the folded end through the 25mm Swarovski disk pendant in crystal red magma, and then thread the loose ends of the suede through the loop and pull tight to keep the crystal in place. Trim the suede to the length desired. Ours is approximately 19 inches.
Step Two: Place a small dab of glue on one end of the suede. Insert the end into the gunmetal pewter small fancy crimp end. Gently squeeze the crimp end closed with the chain nose pliers. Repeat to attach the crimp end to the other side of the suede. For help with crimp ends visit the Handy Tips section of the Learning Center. Let dry.
Step Three: Use 8mm gunmetal-plated open jump rings to attach the gunmetal-plated pewter hook and eye clasp to the crimp ends. For help with jump rings visit the Handy Tips section of the Learning Center.
Step Four: Cut a two foot section of the gunmetal-plated big, medium and small oval link chain. Attach the oval link chain to the 8mm open jump rings from step two.
Step Five: Create a chain of three 8mm jump rings to attach the 30mm Swarovski lotus pendant in jet to the center of the oval link chain.
Step Six: Create 10 lengths of chain from whatever scraps you have. Attach five of them to the right of the lotus pendant and five of them to the left of the lotus pendant using 6 or 8mm jump rings, depending on the size of your chain. See the components list below to see the types of chain we use.
Step Seven: Use an 8mm jump ring to attach the 30mm Swarovski navette pendant in crystal red magma to the far left piece of dangling chain.
Step Eight: Use an 8mm jump ring to attach the 22mm Swarovski cosmic oval ring in crystal red magma to the center piece of chain on the right side of the lotus pendant.
