How to Use a Cable Thimble

Up | Previous | Next
Cable thimbles are a wonderful way to protect your wire from fraying as it rubs against the metal of your clasp.
STEP ONE
Thread your jewelry wire through a crimp bead or tube. Then, slide the wire through one side of your cable thimble.
STEP TWO
Bend the wire along the curve of the thimble and back through the other side. Pull the wire snug against the thimble.
STEP THREE
String the loop of your clasp along the wire and center the clasp on the cable thimble. Slide the second end of the wire through the same crimp bead or tube you originally used.
STEP FOUR
Slide the crimp up to the cable thimble so that they are close, but not touching.
STEP FIVE
Crimp the tube as you normally would. For help on how to crimp, click here. For a more professional look, finish with a crimp cover.
