Low Spark Brooch Instructions Designed by Teri McCamish
Create a fashionable statement piece you can wear with any outfit. Brooches make it easy to dress up an outfit and this one mixes sparkle with texture and shine. With a bit of Swarovski, some fashionable fish leather and copper accents, you've got a look that's runway ready!
Step one: Place the 21mm brass round pin back on the back side of the Lillypilly 3x3-inch sunburst patina 36 gauge copper sheet. Make sure you position it where you want the pin to be when your design is finished. Mark with a pencil on the copper sheet above the pin where to cut. You are going to cut a strip of the top of the copper sheet that will fold down under the pin attachment of the pin back and around the other side of the pin back to keep it in place.
Step two: Once you have cut and folded the tab down and under the pin mechanism of the pin back, manipulate the copper sheet in a pleasing shape. We folded the edges over and made waves in the sheet for a dimensional look.
Step three: cut the fashionable fish leather in glossy grey to the size and shape you want. Punch holes in the copper sheet where you want to attach the fish leather and attach it by looping Artistic Wire over it and through the holes. Trim and twist the wire on the back side of the brooch so it stays secure. To give the fish leather a ruffled look, fold it over in a ruffled design, punch a hole through the ruffles and secure them to the brooch using more Artistic Wire.
Step four: Create dangles that are approximately two inches in length using the grey Griffin bead cord silk decorated with random patterns of Swarovski 4mm XILION bicones in Crystal Bronze Shade, Swarovski 3mm XILION bicones in Crystal Rose Gold 2x, a Swarovski 3mm XILION bicone in Light Colorado Topaz, a Swarovski 3mm XILION bicone in Crystal Silk, Swarovski 4mm XILION bicones in Crystal Silk, Swarovski 3mm XILION bicones in Light Silk, a Swarovski 4mm round pearl in Platinum and Swarovski 3mm round pearls in Light Gold. Knot the patterns in place on the silk and fray the ends of the silk for a tassel effect. Tie the top of the dangles onto a length of Artistic Wire and then trim the ends of the wire. Punch a hole on the copper sheet where you want to place your dangles, thread the craft wire through and finish the ends with simple loops. For help creating simple loops, see our Handy Tip.
Step five: Attach a Swarovski 15mm galactic bead in Crystal Bronze Shade to a length of Artistic Wire and create simple loops at each end of the bead. Attach one simple loop to the Artistic Wire holding the ruffles of the fish leather in place and attach the other simple loop to the wire holding the dangles in place.
