How to make the Elegant Gold Link Necklace

Up | Previous | Next
Be sure to store this necklace carefully so it doesn’t tangle!

STEP ONE
Familiarize yourself with the link. We have labeled the three loops A, B and C. We will continue to refer to these letters as we work through the pattern. You may want to use the picture to lay the pieces out ahead of time, and then just work your way through the design, linking as you go. If you are better with written instructions, begin as follows. Begin with your two antique gold open daisy links; attach a jump ring to two of the petals on the flower, directly opposite one another. Attach the C loop of a melody link to each jump ring.
STEP TWO
Attach the two daisy link pieces to one another by flipping one of them over so that A of the top section meets A of the bottom and link with jump rings. On both B loops of the bottom section, you will attach a 6mm bicone pendant using a 6mm jump ring. In the center of the bottom daisy link, attach a 12mm Swarovski faceted bicone bead by stringing it onto a 1.5 inch gold-filled head pin and attaching it to the center petal of the flower with a simple loop. For instructions on how to make a simple loop, click HERE or visit the Handy Tips section of the Learning Center.
STEP THREE
On the top of the center section, attach another melody link to either side of the design by attaching the available B loops to the C loops of the new links. As the design lays flat, make sure that the A loop of the new link faces in and the B loop faces the outside of the design. The next link will be attached in the opposite direction. You will flip the link so that A faces out and B faces in, and then attach C to B of the finished portion of the necklace. Repeat that with the next link attaching C to B. On the same link, attach B of a new link to A, with A of the new link facing out. Attach C of that link to B of the final link on the strand, so that all three of those links are connected (see photo).
STEP FOUR
The hard part is done. Now all you have to do is continue to flip the links and attach C of each new link to B of the one before it, making sure to change the direction of each link as you work your way to the end. You will add 9 more links to each side.
STEP FIVE
Now go back to the place where you linked the three links together. On each side, using a 6mm jump ring, attach a 6mm Swarovski bicone pendant to A of the link that hangs out from the flow of the design, so the pendant will dangle away from the center of the necklace.
STEP SIX
On the next link out from the center, attach a 6mm Swarovski bicone pendant to loop A. Skip a link and attach a 6mm peridot pendant to loop A of the next link.
STEP SEVEN
Attach a gold-plated pewter melody clasp to the ends of your design, and you are finished.
