Q: Which silver wire should I use?
A: Choosing the right sterling silver wire depends largely on its intended use as well as your personal preference. There are basically two things you need to consider: the gauge and the hardness. With regard to the latter, jewelry makers tend to choose either "dead soft" or "half hard."

Dead soft:

1) Very malleable, can be bent easily, but has little resistance and doesn't hold its shape well.

2) Mainly used for making wire beads or wrapping light beads (can't really hold heavy beads). Dead soft is sometimes preferred over a harder wire because it is very easy to handle. When manipulated, dead soft wire tends to become stiff. We at recommend using half hard wire when making jewelry. Click here to read more.
