Katie's Sparkling Illusion Necklace Instructions Designed by Katie Hacker for Beadalon
Beadalon jewelry wire can be used in so many ways in many different projects. In this glittering necklace, Katie Hacker shows off how the beautiful drape of 49-strand stringing wire from Beadalon works perfectly in floating bead designs. The wire practically disappears to let the beads stand out, yet still provides an elegant and sturdy foundation that you can crimp to easily. This is a great way to practice your crimping if you're a beginner. Learn how to make this necklace and add a Sparkling Illusion to your style! Watch Katie Hacker as she shows you how easy it is to create this necklace in this Mini Tutorial.
Step one: Cut an 18-inch length of Beadalon .018" silver-plated 49-strand stringing wire. Pass the end of the wire through a sterling silver 1.8mm round crimp bead, a Swarovski 6mm faceted round in Light Grey Opal and another crimp bead. Then, pass the wire back through the beads to make a small loop. Use a crimping tool to crimp the crimp beads. For help with crimping, please see our Handy Tip. Measure down the wire approximately one inch and attach another crimp bead, crimping it in place. Add a 6mm Light Grey Opal faceted round and attach another crimp bead to keep the crystal in place. Repeat until you've attached all except the last 6mm Light Grey Opal bead. Add a crimp bead, the last 6mm bead and another crimp bead. Bend the wire in a loop and pass back through the crimp, the crystal and the crimp. Crimp them in place and then cut off any excess wire.
Step two: Repeat the basic technique from step one to make three strands with the following patterns:
Alternating Swarovski 6mm briolette Purple Velvet beads and Swarovski 8mm Tanzanite AB faceted rounds with one-inch spacing.
Alternating Swarovski 6mm briolette Erinite beads and Swarovski 8mm Palace Green Opal faceted rounds with 1/2-inch spacing on the ends and one-inch spacing across the strand.
Step three: Open a silver-plated 4mm jump ring and connect it to all of the loops at one end of the necklace. Repeat for the other end. For help opening and closing jump rings, please see our Handy Tip Video. Use one of the jump rings to add the TierraCast rhodium-plated pewter large classic hook clasp to the necklace. Add a silver-plated 8mm jump ring to the other end of the necklace and slide it onto the hook to fasten the necklace.
